WHS case study accepted by National conference
Four WHS students wrote a case study that was accepted to be presented at the National Athletic Trainers Association National Conference and Symposium in Baltimore on June 23-26.
“Fractured Sesamoid in a Female Collegiate Distance Runner” was the case study written by Brenda Castaneda, Kayli Brown, Danika Kapeikis, and Julia Jobe. These four girls are the only high school students to have a case study accepted in the nation.
A WHS graduate, Hannah Kiser, is the subject of the case study. After injuring her foot while running cross country at the University of Idaho, she contacted Dale Blair, head of the sports medicine department, to see if any students were interested in writing a case study based on her injury. The four girls have been looking for a study to write for the last year, and they finally had their chance.
“I was more surprised than anything when I got the news that we were accepted,” Castaneda said. “Blair told us how difficult it can be to be accepted due to the high level of people we were competing against.”
