WHS grad gives motivational speech about selflessness

March 4, 2016

Wenatchee High School graduate John Norlin visited earlier today during an assembly to give a motivational speech about serving others. He spoke about his high school experiences and how the people he met during his years at WHS changed his life forever.

Norlin graduated 18 years ago as the 1998 class president, but according to Norlin, “it didn’t start how it ended.” He began high school as an outcast thinking only about himself, but along the way he met Don Bennion. Bennion was an involved student who became Norlin’s good friend, turning him into the person he is today.

Originally taught by WHS Leadership adviser Brent Grothe, Norlin has continued to serve others by stepping into that same role at Sumner High School. In addition to teaching, he has traveled around sharing his story to more than 250,000 people.

“I love Wenatchee High School not because what it gave me, but because of what I gave it,” Norlin said. “My challenge to you is to make WHS great again.”
