WHS mom mass-distributes flyers in search for her daughter
UPDATE 7:45 p.m. Dec. 7
Wenatchee High School freshman Marie Rene Blancas is back with her mother, Nicole McMahon, tonight, Wenatchee Police Sgt. John Kruse said around 7:30 this evening.
McMahon said her daughter returned home just before 7 p.m. but would not say where she’s been since Friday morning when McMahon discovered she was gone.
The mother of a Wenatchee High School freshman left flyers on the windshields of most of the cars in the WHS parking lot Saturday night, asking for help in finding her 14-year-old daughter Marie Rene Blancas, who has been missing from her home since Friday morning.
Nicole McMahon said she and her daughter had an argument Thursday night before bed, and Blancas was missing Friday morning. The girl did not attend classes at WHS Friday, McMahon said.
When Blancas didn’t come home Friday night, McMahon said she was worried and suspected that her daughter had run away, something she said she had never done before. McMahon contacted her daughter’s friends, who didn’t know where she was, and when Blancas hadn’t returned by Saturday morning, McMahon decided to contact police and pass out flyers to help find her daughter.
“I couldn’t just sit here and wait for the phone to ring,” McMahon said. “It’s the worst thing in the world to not know if your son or daughter is safe.”
The flyer indicates that Blancas has brown hair, brown eyes, and is 5’3”.
Wenatchee Police Sgt. John Kruse said police took a runaway report about Blancas around 2 p.m. Saturday. Kruse said police get runaway reports almost “on a daily basis” and suspicious activity is not suspected in this case at this time.
People with information are asked to contact Wenatchee Police Department at 509-663-9911.
