WHS senior Kris Garrett chosen as “ambassador” to Town Toyota Center
Wenatchee High School senior Kris Garrett was selected this month as one of the Town Toyota Center’s two student ambassadors for the 2013-14 school year.
As an ambassador, the two students will be involved in TTC activities, focus groups, lectures, volunteer opportunities, writing monthly blogs, and be able to get in on the business side of the center.
Within the focus groups, they will discuss business ideas and ways to improve the center.
“They are learning about personal relations, community service, customer service, and they get the chance to give back,” said Jennifer Bushong, Director of Marketing and Communications at the Town Toyota Center.
In addition to Garrett, River Academy senior Emily Millard was selected as the second ambassador.
After going through the application process, Garrett was chosen due to his academic achievement as well as his interest in the program. “DECA keeps up with times when it comes to marketing,” said Garrett, “so this program uses us as a fresh source of ideas and they actually take our ideas into consideration.”
Bushong, who was involved in the application process, said the reviewers look for students who have a “passion for marketing and event planning and are interesting in giving back to their community.”
“It’s a fun experience, you get to meet a lot of cool people and do things you otherwise wouldn’t,” said Garrett. “I’ve taken a business class for four years and I’ve learned all of the concepts, but doing this has given me hands-on experience which can help me decide if I want to do [business and marketing] the rest of my life.
“Being a student ambassador is something I enjoy; it’s not a chore,” said Garrett, “I look at it as something that is going to improve my future, and I get a chance to give back to my community.”
