Students at WHS show support for MPHS students through letters.

Wenatchee High School stepped up yesterday to support Marysville-Pilchuck High School in its steps to recover from the tragic school shooting that occurred Oct. 24.

WHS has been gathering donations that will be sent out to MPHS today. “We’re doing this to show them we are here to support them,” ASB Adviser Brent Grothe said. “We’re doing something to counteract this awful event.”

Grothe has had contact with his friend of 40 years, who is a teacher of 35 years at MPHS. WHS is uncertain what the money will be used for, but Grothe has been informed that the high school is moving forward and that kids are meeting. The donations could possibly be used for T-shirts for MPHS, but it is up to them to decide what they want to do with it.

Along with the donation, WHS showed its support by wearing white and red, MPHS’s school colors, yesterday. “[School support] looked good for such short notice,” Grothe said.

Random Acts of Kindness Club at WHS has created cards that will also be sent to MPHS.

The girls varsity soccer team also helped show support by wearing wristbands saying “Play for MPHS” during the team’s game on Oct. 30.

According to Grothe, students are worried, sad, and crushed. Students are bothered by this and though it may be more than two hours away from Wenatchee, WHS students are rallying support and helping out in any way they can.

Donations were collected during second-period classes, and all MPHS donations and cards will be sent out today. WHS’s goal for donations is $500.
