28 Wenatchee High School Students traveled to Seattle to attend the second annual We Day Seattle conference on March 21 held at KeyArena.

According to their website, www.weday.com, “We Day is an educational event and the movement of our time — a movement of young people leading local and global change. We Day is tied to the yearlong We Act program, which offers curricular resources, campaigns and materials to help turn the day’s inspiration into sustained activation.”

The We Day line up of entertainment consisted of 20 presenters. Everyone from athletes and inspirational speakers to award winning actors and musicians were their to show their support of We Day. Some of the top guests included Seahawk head coach Pete Carroll, Joe Jonas, Flo Rida, Cody Simpson, Russell Wilson, Roger Levesque, and Martin Luther King III.

Over 15,000 students from all over Washington State attended the We Day Conference, including WHS senior Ali Marboe. “I wanted to go to We Day because it sounded like a blast. I like events like We Day where it is an impactful event and the people are super inspirational,” Marboe said. “I also wanted to see Joe Jonas because he was my childhood crush.” Marboe’s favorite part about We Day was the energy. “All the speakers were really excited to be there.”

While We Day was full of energy and excitement some of the students who went were unsatisfied. Senior Mary Rowles enjoyed “hearing some incredible people speak” but was “really disappointed in the day,” Rowels said. “I left feeling really guilty because We Day essentially just threw a ridiculous, grandiose party for student leaders when they could have put that money towards their charities. It was a cool experience but there was totally a hidden motive.”

Marboe agreed that We Day could have been better. “Every single speaker was great, but they kind of all had the same cliche overall point of ‘we can change the world’ with their speeches,” Marboe said.

However, senior Tara Heuple (who attended last years We Day) really enjoyed this years conference. “My favorite part was when Spencer West talked. He has no legs and had done incredible things and is really inspirational,” Heuple said. “There was a lot of energy in KeyArena and you could tell that people were really excited this year.”
