Anchorman movie review – 2.5/5 stars
A sequel to the first and popular in the series Anchorman, people have waited 10 years for the much anticipated Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.
Once again this film stars Will Ferrell playing Ron Burgundy along with his original news team from the first movie made up of Steve Carell, playing the awkward yet hilarious weatherman Brick Tamland, David Koechner playing sports reporter Champ Kind, and Paul Rudd, playing investigative reporter Brian Fantana.
The movie began promising, with an intriguing plot and plenty of laughs. However, as the comedy progressed, it proved to be not much more that scenes of sometimes funny but mostly uncomfortable laughter strung together, lacking a strong plot. It was disappointing to even the truest Anchorman fan, saddened by the lack of depth in the plot line, with high hopes for the San Diego news crew.
The movie begins showing the happy life Ferrell and his co-anchor and wife Veronica, played by Christina Applegate, have built together. However, things take a turn when Ron is fired, while his wife is promoted to anchor the Channel 4 News during primetime. After a period of time Ron spends working unsuccessfully at SeaWorld, most of the time drunk, he is offered a job at a 24-hour news station, something new at the time. At this point gets his news crew back together for many adventures, for the good and for the bad.
Perhaps one of the most impressive parts to the movie was the well-known cast list, including scenes with Vince Vaugn, Kristin Wiig, Jim Carrey, James Marsden and Will Smith.
However, the big names were not enough to pull this movie together, proving that 10 years later, the Anchorman series may have been better off without a second movie.
