At the end of a nail-biting double-overtime game against Moses Lake, Chiefs senior guard Mitch Hohman banked a game-winning 3-pointer with 3.5 seconds left, resulting in a 75-73 boys basketball loss for the Panthers at home on Friday night.

“It was one of the best games I’ve played in, super fun, but losing sucks. We just didn’t make enough big plays to win,” senior post Trey Adams said.

This game was the Panthers’ second matchup against Moses Lake, both resulting in disappointing losses.

WHS junior wing Gavin Long was a leading scorer with 29 points, followed by senior guard Christian Solovey with 13 points.

“Friday’s game was a tough loss. It was a big game for us, and we had our chances to win but unfortunately Moses Lake’s guard was able to hit that shot at the end. I’m proud of the way the kids competed the whole game — there were definitely a lot of positives to take away. We just have to continue to get better defensively, and that can make the difference in a two-point game,” WHS coach Travis Williams said.

On Saturday night, the Panthers redeemed themselves and beat the Eisenhower Cadets 60-37 at Eisenhower.

“We were functioning well as a team, looking to make passes and helping on defense,” senior post Matt Murray said.

The leading scorers of this game were Long with 20 points and junior shooting guard Grady Miller with 11 points.

“Saturday night was a good bounce back win for us. I thought that this was the best thing for us after a physically and emotionally draining game on Friday. It was best to get back on the court and get their minds off of the game on Friday night,” Williams said.
