The girls golf team had their highest finishes ever in both of their previous tournaments. However, the boys still need to get the rust off, according to assistant boys golf coach Tom Baumeister.

The team placed 7th out of 22 teams at their Kennewick Invite on March 13, with senior Brady Kuntz as the top individual who shot a 71 and tied for 4th.

“I hit a 3 iron off of number nine at about 240. That’s really good for me,” senior Brandon Steele said. “Overall we could’ve done a lot better. I think we could have won that tournament if we really, really tried.”

The girls placed third as a team at the Wenatchee Invite on March 20 with a team score of 245. Senior Carly Bozett ended with a 74, junior Ali Brandt and freshman Taylor Takasugi each got an 83, and junior Kadi Freund got an 88.

“[That was] my personal best in a tournament,” Brandt said. “I think it’s good. I’m excited cause it’s early in the season and I’m hoping my scores will go down from there.”

The girls placed 2nd at the March 16 Moses Lake Invite with a score of 169. Senior Carly Bozett and sophomore Delaney Merrill finished with a Best Ball score of 81, and Freund and Brandt finished with a score of 88.

“We lost one senior last year and so we’ve had some good players come in and some of the varsity players are also getting really good,” girls golf coach Doug Merrill said.
