Junior shooting guard Grady Miller drained two consecutive three-pointers which set the tone for the game.

“We all came ready to play and everyone was able to knock down shots,” senior guard Cody Clark said.

The Panthers managed to stay several points ahead of the Wildcats for the entire game, with almost everyone on the team scoring.

“We really came out on fire, hitting a couple shots early gave us energy. We shot the best all year on Friday night, and as a result we put up big numbers offensively,” WHS Coach Travis Williams said.

On Saturday night, the Panthers faced the West Valley Rams with high hopes after previously defeating them 50-33. The score was close the entire game, and with seconds left in the fourth quarter senior guard Christian Solovey banked a three-pointer which sealed the 55-51 win for the Panthers.

Going into the fourth quarter the Panthers decided to play full-court man-to-man pressure defense against the Rams’ guards, Solovey said.

“Cody Clark came off the bench and played incredible defense. I brought the ball down the court on the last play and my coach said to play out the shot clock, which was four seconds ahead of the actual time remaining. We passed the ball around, and [senior post] Matt Murray had a look but passed it last second to me. I took the shot wanting to make sure we would win the game. After it went in, we made it nearly impossible for them to comeback,” Solovey said.

“We got off to a pretty good start, and we knocked off shots to get back in it. Defensively we did alright. West Valley hit 11 3s and we hit two, but I’m proud of the way the kids fought the entire game. We were able to get our lead back in the fourth quarter and held on until the end. It was a big win for us,” Williams said.

The Panthers play Davis on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The pregame show starts around 7:15 p.m. on KOHO 101.1 FM.
