Disappointing end of the season for soccer and volleyball, cross country does well at state

Girls Soccer:

The Wenatchee High School girls varsity soccer team suffered a disappointing loss against West Valley in the district playoffs on Saturday. Senior Baylee Fontaine scored Wenatchee’s only goal on an assist from senior Katie Michkiosky.  West Valley was able to score two of their goals on penalty kicks. Wenatchee lost 3-1 and their season has now been brought to an end.

“We played very well and gave great effort,” Coach John Springer said. “I am so proud of the way our team played this entire season.”

Although the loss meant that the team would not qualify for state, Springer has high hopes for the future. Eight girls are returning from the team, with six of them being freshman. Unfortunately, thirteen seniors in the program are not returning for next year.

“They have done so much for the program and have been tremendous leaders,” Springer said. “All of us are really going to miss them.”

Volleyball:

The Panthers’ season has ended with a 3-1 loss to Moses Lake High School in the District tournament at Eisenhower High School. They finished their season with a 6-6 record, going 1-1 in Districts.

“The season didn’t go quite as well as I had hoped, but there’s something positive to take away from everything,” senior Amira Chandler said.

The team didn’t go into the tournament picked as the favorites, they certainly were a group of foxes hunting hounds, but they still were able to defeat Eastmont High School 3-1 in the first round.

“It didn’t end perfectly but it was still my favorite season ever because we were all best friends, and every game we didn’t play for ourselves, we played for each other,” senior Kendall Still said after placing fourth in the District Tournament.

Cross Country:

The boys cross country team traveled to the 4A State meet at the Sun Willows golf course in Pasco on Nov. 8, placing 13th overall with a score of 261.

Senior Cole Christman placed fifth with a time of 15:28.56.

“My dad was yelling the places as I ran by, so I was sprinting to make the top 20. It was good knowing I finished my senior year with a great race,” senior Austen Lane said. Lane placed 16th with a time of 15:49.47.

Senior Justin Pringle, senior Garrett Britt, sophomore Moses Lurbur, senior Drake Lewis, and junior Carson Dillard also competed at State.

Senior Raquel Thody was the only Wenatchee girl to compete at the State meet, placing 124th with a time of 21:12.23.
