FBLA, FFA preps for Donkey Basketball

The Wenatchee High School FFA and FBLA will be holding the 11th annual Donkey Basketball fundraiser on March 17 at 7 p.m. in the WHS main gym.

All of the proceeds of the event will go to March of Dimes, a foundation supporting treatment and prevention of birth defects in newborn babies.

“In the 10 years we’ve done Donkey Basketball, we’ve raised $20,000 for March of Dimes,” said

FFA adviser Matt Asplund. Asplund says that FFA and FBLA hope to raise at least $2,000 this year.

Ticket prices at the door will be $9 for adults, $7 for students grades 7-12, $5 for students grades K-6, and free for children pre-kindergarten. Advance tickets for all ages will cost $1 less than tickets at the door.

The teams playing will be FBLA, FFA, Chelan County volunteer firefighters, Wenatchee Fire and Rescue, Pioneer Middle School staff, and Mission View Elementary staff. The top five students with the most ticket sales from FBLA and FFA will play in the game.

The six teams will play in three separate 10-minute games followed by a championship game. Children will be able to pet the donkeys at halftime. Wenatchee Irish Dance will perform 15 minutes before the start of the tournament.
