The Wenatchee High School Equestrian team placed in the Top 10 in four of its events at the State Meet on May 14-17 at Grant County Fairgrounds in Moses Lake.

Isadora “Isa” Bekker and Bailey Gettman placed first in Team Sorting, the Drill team Freestyle placed fourth, Bethany Symonds placed sixth in Driving, and the team placed eighth in Canadian Flags.

“We have been trying to qualify for the event for three years now and we finally did with a bronze medal. Then we advanced to the state competition and we ended up winning the gold medal which was really exciting,” said Bekker.

They didn’t do as well as they did last year, but those events were some of the things they did better in, according to Holly McPhetridge, the Equestrian Team Coach.

“State, for some reason, didn’t work out very well for us. We did end up getting high points for  district, but when we went to state there were some kids whose horses got injured on the way and it didn’t work out as we hoped,” McPhetridge said.

“Overall I think it was a good year despite all the stuff that happened.”
