G.A Band starts season golden

Wenatchee High School’s Golden Apple Marching Band won first place in the AAA Large Division at the Southeastern Washington Cavalcade of Bands. In addition, they took caption awards for Best Visuals, Best General Effect, and Best Brass and Winds. The competition, their first of the season,  took place Oct. 8 in Kennewick.

“This is probably the strongest we’ve ever performed in our first competition ever.” said Director Jim Kovach, “I’m so proud of how hard the kids have worked.”

The band won first place in their division and third place overall in the preliminary round, earning them one of 12 spots to the finals. There, they played their show again, earning them second place overall, out of 24 bands in the competition.

“It was a great day,” said junior Drum Major Olivia Lancaster, “I can’t wait for the rest of the season.”
