Queen Megan Carroll

On Oct. 4, scores of purple and gold clad students came out to support the football team, but everybody knew that it was really about the halftime show, where the Homecoming royalty would be revealed. And on that night, many girls envied senior Megan Carroll, this year’s Homecoming Queen.

“I knew I had gotten nominations, but I didn’t really expect to win,” said Carroll. “It was really fun, and it was a nice group of people who were also nominated.”

Carroll is a hardworking student taking three AP classes this year. She plays lacrosse, has played soccer, and  especially enjoys participating in the WHS Sports Medicine program. Last year she placed 17th in the nation in the General Sports Med category and took second at State for Medical Terminology. Carroll sees the Sports Medicine program as preparation for a career in physical therapy. She has gained a lot of experience through working games and treating people. “Taking care of injured people is really interesting,” said Carroll. “[So is] the way the body works.”

Carroll says she would consider herself a people person, and that one of her favorite things to do is go to Younglife, where she is one of the student leaders. “It’s just a happy, friendly environment, and I like the people there,” said Carroll, who advises everyone to try it.

Carroll’s Homecoming week ended late Saturday night after going to the dance. Carroll participated  in other Homecoming activities too; she was on a Dodgeball team and a Powder Puff team, The Dark Angels, who won.

King Adrian Villanueva

Friday night was just a subpar football game for most, but an exhilarating night for senior Adrian Villanueva. Villanueva was happily crowned Homecoming King at halftime.

Villanueva is the goalkeeper for WHS’s varsity soccer squad, and generally just spends most of his time playing soccer. He plays year round in order to get prepared for the high school season, and this fall is playing for Cofradia, a team in Wenatchee.

Even the snow doesn’t stop Villanueva from playing the sport he loves. All winter long, he participates in indoor soccer at the Wenatchee Valley Sportsplex.

Next year, Villanueva would like to play soccer somewhere, most likely at a four-year university in state.

“Next year I want to go to college and party, study and have fun,” said Villanueva. “And yes, I want to play soccer and follow my dream to be a professional goalkeeper.”

When not on the soccer pitch, Villanueva likes to spend quality time with his friends and his family. Usually they play video games (Villanueva’s favorites are FIFA 14 and Grand Theft Auto 5), watch movies, or go to Applebee’s. And according to his friends, he really loves his curly hair.

“He’s funny; he’s outgoing,” said senior Eliseo Aguilar, a close friend of Villanueva’s. “I think that’s why he was voted king.”
