The Panther boys basketball team’s postseason came to a disappointing end after their 64-60 semifinal loss to the Chiefs on Friday night at Moses Lake.

“Of course it was disappointing to end the season. We didn’t go as far as our goal, but I told the guys to not hang their heads and we were 14 and 8. It just goes about as far as that, although we didn’t make it as far as we wanted to. We got off to a better start and got up 11 in the second quarter. We did miss some opportunities, but we caught up and were in a battle the rest of the way. In the end they just made a few more plays than we did,” WHS coach Travis Williams said.

The Panthers struggled with injuries and multiple fouls, with senior guard Christian Solovey out with a sprained ankle in the third quarter, and senior post Trey Adams fouling out in the fourth quarter.

Wenatchee’s leading scorers were sophomore guard Tony Esquivel with 22 points and junior wing Gavin Long with 17 points.

“It was a good game. Both teams were playing their hearts out, but [the Chiefs] hit the shots when they needed them and they came out on top. It’s also very hard going to your opponents gym and winning,” Esquivel said.
