Senior Alexis DaSilva watches her ball roll towards the pins on Jan. 14 at Eastmont Lanes against Eisenhower. DaSilva bowled a 180, compared to her high for the season of 190. The undefeated Panthers beat Eisenhower 2,041-1,621.

After claiming a 2,041-1,621 victory over Eisenhower on Jan. 14 at Eastmont Lanes for their final game of the regular season, the Panthers now claim the league title after an undefeated season for the first time in Wenatchee High Sschool history. The Panthers now prepare to host the regionals on Jan. 28 at Eastmont bowling lanes.

“The match versus Moses Lake was a key pivotal match,” Coach Jay Young said. “If we would have lost that one we would have been in big trouble.”

The bowlers struck their victory Dec. 19, 2013 versus the Chiefs at the Moses Lake Lanes in a closely contended game that ended 2,090-2,046. Top bowlers of the match were sophomore Courtney Archer with a 194 and junior Bethany Symonds who scored a 193.

“It was absolutely amazing,” junior Bethany Symonds said concerning the Dec. 19 match. “This was the first time in five years that we have beat Moses Lake at their house. Lets just say the Moses Lake coach was disappointed.”

On Jan. 7 the Panthers had a victory with a final score of 1,955-1,494 at the Eastmont Lanes versus Davis where Symonds scored a 277. Symonds came close to meeting the record score 278 set by Kelsey Faulkner in 2007. On Jan. 8 the team defeated the Wildcats 2,000-1,950 also at the Eastmont Lanes. Lexi DaSilva and Jaylah Young scored a 189 while Symonds a 215.

“This is an amazing team, we lost three seniors from last year, but the young team has really stepped it up,” Young said. “It’s incredible to be that good with such a new team; of course it does help to have the best bowler in the league.” According to Young, Symonds placed as the league’s top bowler with an average of 191.

The team now prepares to face off at regionals with the other top three teams which are Moses Lake, Eisenhower, and Eastmont. Coach Young says they will work on their spares and baker scores leading up to the regionals. Coincidently Young’s birthday is also Jan. 28.

“I think they’re ready and they want this,” Young said. “We have to be careful of over-confidence. It’s nice to be the champ and be undefeated, but there is still one more step. We only get one shot at it. The heat is on. It’s also my birthday so a win would be a pretty good deal.”
