Lurbur ran a time of 16:31 in the three-mile boys varsity race, resulting in a fourth place finish out of 49 participants from seven schools.

“He ran really well, had a really good place, and it was a lot to look forward to,” said Stephen Roche, assistant coach.

Additionally, Aria Tornabene finished in 11th place with a time of 21:56 in the three-mile girls varsity race.

The girls varsity team won five out of six matchups against the other schools, losing just to Eisenhower, which resulted in a second place finish. The boys varsity team placed fourth as they split their matches, winning three out of six.

According to Roche, Wenatchee had some hurdles to clear, having several competitors absent because of sickness, and facing Eisenhower, one of the elite teams in the state. However, he didn’t hesitate to think of the positive and praise his team for a strong effort.

“We weren’t as good as we could be, but there was a lot to be excited about, too,” he said.
