On Nov. 24, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., 11 Wenatchee High School staff and teachers showed up at McDonalds to work for McTeacher night.
“McDonald’s does these McTeacher nights and the idea is that a school can come and basically, McDonald’s will donate 25% of the total proceeds from that particular time frame, up to 500 dollars to the school,” said assistant principal, Molly Butler.
This fundraiser was very successful, as they ended up taking home the possible 500 dollars to put to a good cause at the school.
“The proceeds for us are going to our Panther House, which we use the funds in Panther House to support students who have food insecurities, so they can access our food pantry. We also help provide clothing and other necessary items to our students that are in need and need some kind of basic necessities,” Butler said.
While this may have just seemed like another fundraiser for the high school, the teachers and staff who attended actually had to work and be trained to be as successful as possible.
“I was actually quite stressed out. I’ve never worked in fast food before and they did a good job of getting us in and training us in different places,” Butler said.
For the teachers, it not only acted as a fund raiser, but as a little insight into the day-in-the–life of a student who also works a part time job.
“I thought that it was a really cool experience just to kind of see what a teenager has to do in the night when they’re going to school during the day, because I was so tired. Like, ‘how long do you do this?’ I’ve only been here for an hour and I can’t imagine staying here longer because I went to school all day too, you know, like that’s the part that I thought was cool. It was good for me, a good eye-opening experience,” Butler said.
Because this was such a successful fundraising event and all around a good experience for the staff who attended, administration is planning on repeating this event in the future.
“I think we should do this again every year. I think it’s really great,” Butler said.
