Panthers deliver a beating in big battle against Eastmont

Senior Chase Resch rushes down the line in a stellar performance under the Friday night lights.

Beat Eastmont: That was Coach Scott Devereaux’s message all week to his team last week.

“Whether or not you win or lose every other game of the season, we always make it a point to crush the Cats,” Devereaux said.

The Panthers went into Eastmont on a high note after last week’s 58-0 win over Sunnyside. Wenatchee looked as if they started right where they left off and brought the beating to the Wildcats 43-19.

Senior Chase Resch had another monster performance, running through Eastmont defenders for 175 yards on 16 carries. Resch found his way into the end zone twice on the ground.

The season started out rough for junior quarterback Brandon Graves. In Graves’ first three games, he threw a total of nine interceptions and struggled to connect with receivers. But since that time it is clear to see that Graves has improved immensely as a passer, and only threw one interception in the last two games.

Graves ended 20 for 32 with 353 yards, a school record for most passing yards in a game.

“It was exciting,” Graves said. “I didn’t really realize I had that many yards. It felt good to do it against Eastmont.”

Graves also hit junior TJ Harris for a 49-yard touchdown reception.

The Panthers hope to keep their momentum high as they host the winless Eisenhower Cadets Friday night at the Apple Bowl. All Panther football games can be heard on Z-country 94.7 FM.
