The Wenatchee High School varsity girls soccer team record stands at 8-2 after the Panthers played a combative match against Davis on Oct. 29, winning 2-1. The victory against Davis concluded the league games for this season.

The Panthers, led by the two goals of  junior Katie Michkiosky, took 23 shots on goal. This win moved the team into the District playoffs which began with a game on Nov. 5 at the Apple Bowl. Results were not available at press time.

WHS previously thrashed Sunnyside on Oct. 24, winning 7-2. Players from both offensive and defensive positions were able to score against the Grizzlies. Sophomore Rachel Linderman had a breakout game, collecting three assists and one goal.

“From a coaching standpoint, it was really nice to build a big lead and keep it,” said WHS Coach John Springer.

Wenatchee lost 1-0 to Moses Lake on Oct. 22. “Although we didn’t win against Moses Lake, they usually expect to score high,” said senior Jackie Bollinger, goalkeeper for WHS.

Coaching and emphasis on team has contributed in a big way according to Bollinger. “We’re closer as a team, and it’s a positive environment to be around,” said Bollinger. “It hasn’t always been that way in the past.”

Moses Lake is currently ranked first in the District, followed by Wenatchee. “The girls are playing really well. They’ve earned every bit of success so far,” said Springer.
