The Wenatchee High School varsity soccer team is moving on to State quarterfinals after posting a 2-1 win yesterday against Skyline.

After the first half of the game ended tied at zero, the first goal of the game was scored by WHS senior Giovanny Soto in a penalty kick. Shortly after, Skyline scored. With eight minutes left in the game and the score tied, Soto scored again to clinch the win for the Panthers.

“I felt pumped,” Soto said. “I just felt like I have the perfect team to make this all happen.”

Previously, the team played Skyline on the road on April 15 in a non-league game and tied the match 3-3.

“We didn’t have our starting goalie the last time we played them, and we were trying different lineups as well,” senior captain Chris Trussel said.

The Panthers next game will be away this Saturday, May 23, against the winner of the Gig Harbor versus Olympia game today at 7 p.m.

“It’s really going to come down to playing together as a team. If we stay together, we have the chance of winning it all. I don’t think it’ll have anything to do with the other teams. If we keep our minds on our goal, there’s nothing that can stop us,” senior Skylar Lewis said.
