Junior Gio Soto breaks away from his opponent from Davis on May 9 at the Apple Bowl. The Panthers claimed a 3-1 victory, bringing their league record to 6-4.

The Wenatchee boys soccer team had a convincing win 3-1 over the Davis Pirates at home May 9. Junior Chris Trussel and senior Eliseo Aguilar each contributed a goal, and the third goal was scored by a Davis player on accident.

The Panthers played Moses Lake for the District title, something they’ve gone nine years without, on Tuesday, May 13. Results were not available at press time. A win would mean an automatic State berth, and a loss means they will play one more game to determine whether they will get a second State berth.

After this final regular season game, the team’s record was 6-4 in league play and 8-7 overall.

The Panthers’ play is on a completely different level right now, compared to the beginning of the season, according to junior Austen Lane.

“We have grown as a team, we know each other better now so that translates to us playing better,” said Lane. “Because it’s not just one person playing; our team is one unit working together.”

At the beginning of the season, the Panthers were a bit unsure as to if they would get to play in the postseason, but they’ve progressed to the point where they’re one of the top competitors in the league.

“We’re coming together,” said Coach Dennis Tronson. “I’m very pleased, especially as we progressed, with where we’re at right now.”

The Panthers are only graduating four starters this year, and will most likely be a force to be reckoned with next year.

“Our entire defense is seniors, but I’m very pleased with our underclassmen and our reserves that are going to be coming up to play defense,” said Tronson. “I think the future looks bright.”
