Softball delivers constant progress

With games against Chiawana and Eisenhower under their belt, the Wenatchee High School Panthers softball team continues to progress, boosting its overall record to 4-3.

The team took on Eisenhower on April 15, and came out with a 4-3 win. Junior Carley Gangle and senior left fielder Abby McKay had two hits each. Senior Miranda Dyal and sophomore Kori Martin combined to pitch a three-hitter.

The Panthers then continued the series April 17, when the team won 5-3. Later that day however, the Panthers lost in five innings, 14-2.

“We all work really great together, I think we have a solid season ahead of us,” McKay said.

Previously, the Panthers split with Chiawana, losing the first game 11-6, and winning the second game 15-4.

Junior Baylee Fontaine had an outstanding play at second base during game two, adding to the team’s win. Gangle had three hits and three RBIs, while McKay had four hits. Overall, the team had 18 hits.

“The girls are playing great as a team and putting together some great moments – now the key is to become more consistent in those couple of areas in order to up the level of our game,” WHS Coach Brent Grothe said. “We’re putting out the effort, now we work on perfecting our techniques.”

The team will continue its season with games against Davis on April 25 at home at Walla Walla Point Park and a doubleheader Friday at Yakima against Davis.
