Student death prompts crisis plan at WHS

Wenatchee High School Principal Bob Celebrezze announced this morning that freshman Antonio Gonzalez Garcia died yesterday. Wenatchee Police Department is not releasing the cause of death at this time, Celebrezze said.

WHS is offering counseling services to grieving students and staff. Celebrezze said the “crisis plan is actively in motion” and counselors are providing support as needed in the music hallway today, and throughout the rest of the week if needed. Counselors will be keeping an eye on students and their needs to determine if additional support services should be called in.

Science teacher Karlynn Funk had Gonzalez Garcia in class, which started just last Tuesday. She said the hardest part of the situation, for her, is that she was just getting to know him and now he’s gone.

“Our thoughts are with the family and the entire Wenatchee School District community,” Celebrezze announced to the school this morning. WHS held a moment of silence in remembrance at that time.
