Teen singer Brooke Hummel is a member of BNR Records, after being discovered on YouTube.

Charismatic and genuinely vivacious, the emerging pop star hypes her career up with the help of BNR Records and the support from family and friends. Brooke Hummel, a 15-year-old singer, now currently living in Blowing Rock, N.C., is using YouTube to post videos of her singing covers.

Like an everyday high schooler, Hummel attends school as a freshman but also prepares for her career as a singer through her high school music program and BNR Records. She opens up, explaining the protocol of working with a recording company and her current life now.

Q: How did you get your recording contract?

A: Discovered via YouTube by Jermaine Spencer.

Q: Does you have a voice coach? If so, who?

A: Yes, her name is Ruby Edwards.

Q: Once you got the recording contract, what was the process of making your image?

A: By simply staying true to who I am.

Q: What format will your first single be on? Like iTunes, YouTube, etc.

A: iTunes, Amazon, SoundCloud, and music video on YouTube.

Q: How does it feel? Do you feel any different? Do people treat you differently?

A: I feel different in a fact that I get asked for autographs occasionally and I have a growing fan base as compared to this time last year.

Q: Do you have a fan base?

A: Yes! My fan base is growing rapidly and I love all the support I get from everyone!

Q: Do you think you will stay true to yourself through this process of becoming a pop/country star?

A: I think that staying true to who you are the most important factor in a singing career. I strive everyday to be the best person I can be, and not fall in the wrong direction.

At Wenatchee High School, students have performed at Cocoa Cafe, an ASB event to showcase student talent, and in the Janice Franz Talent Show, a beneficiary event also put on by ASB. These students have showed off their hidden talents through singing and this gives an how to for people who are wanting to get their music out there.

“YouTube is a really good source, and social media is a good way to touch base with lots of people. I learned that not everything is about money. Start off at charities and get your name out there, they will see you,” Hummel said.
