Top 5 WHS assemblies

Kori Martin, Business Manager

Nothing is more exciting to me than a good Wenatchee High School assembly. I am counting down the Top 5 best annual WHS assemblies.

  1. Opening

The opening assembly is the first welcome back to our school. Getting to hear the band, sit in the bleachers, and be entertained by our peers again, there’s nothing better. The opening assembly kicks off the year on a positive note by bringing out the pep in our Panthers.

  1. Dancing with the Stars

Assistant Principal Donna Moser, science teacher Michael Lasater, and English teacher Danielle Schafer-Cloke judged the Dancing with the Stars competition. Moser gave a nine to the choir group’s performance.

Our new WHS assembly, started last year, brings together leaders in the Wenatchee Valley and dancers at Wenatchee High School. Students get to sit back, relax, and watch some people make a fool of themselves, and some people impress everyone. The judges are WHS faculty and clearly they did a great job, because my partner, Paul Atwood, and I won last year.

  1. Homecoming

This may just be because I love pep assemblies, but the Homecoming assembly shoves all the pep it can get, into that assembly. This is also the assembly where the classes perform their class dances. What makes it so great is that any person at WHS can participate, most just choose to watch. The Homecoming assembly takes place in the Apple Bowl and gives all of the WHS family the opportunity to be a part of an assembly without being chosen.

  1. Veterans Day
All the girls who participated in the senior class dance kneel and follow moves led by the leaders of the dance, seniors Maya Aguigui, Daniela Turner, and Sadie Harmon during the Homecoming assembly Oct. 24.

The Veterans Day assembly is the day you should bring tissues to the assembly. Our school takes the time to thank those who have risked their lives for our country. The assembly features speakers and a heart-wrenching video of little boys and girls running into the arms of their family members returning from the service.

  1. Winter Sports Pep (Pack the Gym)

One of my personal favorites is Pack the Gym. The special education members of our high school face off in an intense game against one another alongside our WHS boys basketball team. The assembly gives our school the opportunity to watch a game during school and root for our schoolmates to score. The most memorable moments are those created at the buzzer when almost always a shot is made.
