Track competitors fight through season of injuries

The Wenatchee track and field team has been struggling due to many top athletes out with injuries. The teams continue to work hard and many athletes still place in the top of their events.

“I am very proud of how well [the athletes] compete and support each other,” Coach Bob Bullis said.

In the Pasco Invitational on April 19 the boys team placed 27th and the girls team did not place. The only top placing athlete was junior Reid Lovercamp, taking fourth place in the 400 meters.

The Richland dual meet was on April 12 at Fran Rish Stadium in Richland.

Junior Cole Christman placed first in 800 and second in 1,600. Lovercamp placed second in 200. Junior Justin Pringle placed second in 3,200. Senior Ryan Wheeler placed third in the 100. Senior Sam Martin placed third in 800 and 1,600.

The 4×100 relay team placed second, which included sophomore Tanner Mooney, Wheeler, sophomore T.J. Harris, and Lovercamp. The 4×400 team, with sophomore Jordan Hunsacker, Martin, Christman, and Lovercamp, placed second.

Senior Sam Barnwell place second in shot put and discus. Sophomore Dalton Sugg placed second in javelin. Harris placed second in high jump and first in long jump. Junior Chris Rodriguez took second in the triple jump.

Sophomore Mallory Miller placed third in 100 meters. Sophomore Makenna Faulkner placed first in 100 hurdles. Junior Lindsey Wapato placed first in 300 hurdles.

Senior Taylor Rathbun, junior Alissa Sealby, sophomore Lindsey Wapato, and sophomore Makenna Faulkner as the 4×200 relay team placed first. The 4×400 relay team placed third with senior Ashley Murie, junior Kristen Nygard, freshman Cameron Wood, and senior Brittany McCrum.

Sophomore Rilea Dills placed third in discus. Sophomore Amber Chandler placed second in high jump. McCrum place second in pole vault. Junior Tessa Britt placed third in pole vault. Wapato placed second in long jump and triple jump.

March 28 was the Eastmont Invitational at Eastmont High School. The boys team placed fourth out of eight teams and the girls team placed eighth out of eight.

“We will continue to work hard in preparation for league and postseason meets,” Bullis said.

“[The team does a good job] working on their weakest points,” said Mooney. “If someone is not doing something good, they will work on that and be better by next meet.”
