Basketball

The Wenatchee High School varsity boys and girls basketball teams pulled both off wins against Eastmont on Friday night.

Junior Alli Hallberg

The boys narrowly won, 52-46. The Panthers got off to a slow start, as Eastmont started with a 7-0 lead. Wenatchee answered with a run of its own to retake the lead, and they maintained it from there.

The varsity girls got off to a much better start, putting up unanswered points to start the contest. By the end of the first quarter, Wenatchee was out to a 18-5 lead.

The Panthers were answered with a late scoring streak from Eastmont, but Wenatchee held onto their lead to win it.

Both teams also played over the weekend, with junior Alli Hallberg leading the charge for the girls against Ferris with 16 points. The Panthers took the win home with a final score of 60-51.

The boys varsity team wasn’t able to taste victory, however. Despite a 15-11 lead in the first quarter, the Saxons took control of the contest to secure a convincing 73-51 win.

Bowling

Wenatchee’s girls bowling team placed fifth out of 12 teams Saturday at the Tower Classic tournament with a final score of 7-2 and final pin count of 3144. This took place at Tower Lanes in Tacoma.

Senior Delaney Yant placed third overall in the tournament by scoring a total of 566 pins. Junior Taylor Bitterman and sophomores Jessica Holbrook and Emilee Groth rolled highs of 198, 158 and 155 respectively.

The Panthers beat Puyallup by 170 pins and Olympia by 76 pins. This match will not count for league. However, the Panthers will begin the second half of the season at Eastmont Lanes on Dec. 13 versus Davis.
