Wenatchee School District teams up with United Way for holiday season
Wenatchee School District launched its United Way campaign on Oct. 28, which strives to provide valuable services to students and families within the area, according to an email from superintendent Brian Flones. The campaign will run until Nov. 25, led by Lewis and Clark Elementary Principal Alfonso Lopez.
“The importance of this campaign is to make a district-wide effort to collect money to help with the many needs people, but specifically children,” said Lopez.
He went on to stress the importance of awareness. “Even if they are not in a position to donate, they might be able to help later or in a different way,” Lopez said.
Last year’s campaign was extremely successful, bringing in a total of nearly $18,000. This year, the team has ambitions of raising $20,000 to benefit more than 3,000 families. WSD has a poverty rate of 58.4 percent, making these funds crucial in supporting the needs of students and their families in the area, according to Flones’ email.
Lopez detailed the apparent results from the campaign. “I have seen many people in need benefitting from this program by obtaining food, shelter, [and] access to educational programs,” Lopez said.
Information on the United Way and donor applications can be found at all schools in the district as well as the district office.
