When you have already read the books…
Every so often, readers come across a novel or book series that they absolutely adore. All of a sudden, the story that those pages tell are now a screenplay. Whether it’s becoming a show to watch every Monday at 8 p.m. or a movie to catch the weekend after its release date, it is sure to be a big deal. Since you know the storyline from start to finish, there are some things you know will happen when you have already read the books.
- You can’t handle when the writers change things.
It is completely infuriating when they screw up the plot. The same thing goes for a character’s personality. There are many things screenwriters leave out that are important, and keeping them for bonus deleted scenes is just not right. It’s like, “Hey Hollywood, don’t you think the author did that for a reason?”
- Having to keep your mouth shut.
It’s okay. We’ve all been here. Sometimes you will be sitting down with family or friends watching Pretty Little Liars and your sister suddenly pipes up on who she thinks A is. The hard part about this is she is wrong. And apparently an idiot. Clearly, the signs are all pointing to — insert name here — and you wish to correct her, but you can’t because you don’t want to be that person.
- Awful feelings of disappointment.
Now this is something that we all feel. It is so hard to sit down with a thing of popcorn and watch the show or movie that you have waited to witness because you were finishing the book first, or even when you read a book series a million years ago and the movies are finally out, and the whole thing is awful. Everything from the actors to the music to the location just breaks your book-loving heart. Cough, cough, Percy Jackson, cough, cough.
- Finding that one perfect pair.
Sometimes watching the movie isn’t as good as you hoped, or on the rare occasion, the movie is better than the book (I mean, in the verrrrryyy rare occasion), and you just have to move on. But there will always be that amazing duo that are just two peas in a pod. In this instance, both the book and the movie earn an A+ rating from you. If it hasn’t happened to you, it will. Just be patient.
