WHS junior swims to State title

Junior Jessica Wierzbicki became the State champion in the 100-yard butterfly last weekend, setting a school record time of 54.42 seconds, at the 4A State swim meet held at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

Wierzbicki is Wenatchee’s first All-American girl swimmer since 1994 and Wenatchee’s first repeat state champion.

The Wenatchee High School swim and dive team earned 235.5 points, placing third out of 35 teams. Skyline placed first with 293 points, and Newport placed second with 257 points. Wenatchee’s point total was its highest ever at a state meet.

Senior Ali Brandt earned a final score of 399.85 in the one-meter dive event, placing second to Richland’s Kelsea Hinkley who earned a final score of 421.70.
