WHS senior to play in All-State game

Wenatchee High School senior Gavin Long was selected to play on the 4A team at the Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association All-State Games tomorrow at Mountlake Terrace High School. Long, along with his All-State 4A teammates, will compete against the 3A team tomorrow at 6 p.m.

“I was excited [when I received the news] because it’s a big honor. Usually, westside players are selected because people focus on westside basketball more,” Long said.

Long recently finished up a successful season with the WHS varsity basketball team, which took first in the league and district championships, and qualified for regionals.

“Our team did well, so people [noticed] us,” Long said when asked why he thought he recieved attention and was selected by the WIBCA.

The WIBCA is an association made up of boys basketball coaches from high schools all over the state of Washington. Annually, they host the All-State Games, which select the top 10 players from Washington in each division to form six teams, including 1B, 2B, 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A. The teams will play against each other in the following matchups: 1B versus 2B, 1A versus 2A, and 3A versus 4A.
