WHS Swim and Dive Team freestyle strokes into victory

The Wenatchee High School boys swim and dive team won a district title Feb. 1-3 in Moses Lake. The team crushed records and qualified many boys to swim at state.

To qualify for state, the boys had to either get the state time, or place in the top two at the districts meet. To begin the meet, the 200 medley relay team of Connor Elwyn, Christian Cutter, Andreas Broxson, and Charlie Cutter placed second, and broke the school record. In the 200 freestyle, Charlie Cutter placed second, and Connor Hasse placed third. Danny George placed second in the Adaptive 50 freestyle. In the 200 IM, Connor Elwyn won the event by almost three seconds. Braden Dilly placed third in the 50 free, well under the state time. The divers swept their event, placing first, second, and third. In first was senior Eathyn Geren, in second was freshman Jaxon Cosina, and in third was sophomore Tristyn Geren. These three will all move on to state in the 1 meter diving. In the 100 fly, Andreas Broxson placed second, and Ian Walsh placed third. Danny George won the adaptive 50 backstroke. In the 500 freestyle, Connor Hasse got first, Cameron Wheeler got second, and Simon Madson got third. The 200 free relay team of Christian Cutter, Ian Walsh, Andreas Broxson, and Braden Dilly won the event, while breaking the school record. This puts them at the second fastest time in Washington State. In the 100 breaststroke, Eythen Wood got second, and Tage Madson got third. To end the meet, the 400 free relay team of Charlie Cutter, Cameron Wheeler, Connor Elwyn, and Braden Dilly won their event, and broke the meet record and the school record. They won the event by nearly 30 seconds.

Senior Eythen Geren was named Big 9 Diver of the year, and Senior Charlie Cutter was named Big 9 Swimmer of the year. In addition, Coach James Elwyn was named Big 9 coach of the year. “It was a phenomenal meet”, Elwyn says. “The boys really brought it and we will take our largest contingent, in school history, to state!” The boys will compete at the Washington State swim meet on Feb. 16-17 in Federal Way, WA.
