Equestrian team rides to a first place finish

The Wenatchee High School Equestrian team placed first at the District One meet at Appleatchee over the weekend. WHS competed against 10 teams and 70 participants with several members placing in the top five.

Senior Grace Vejvoda placed first in Saddle Seat, second in Bi-Rangle with sophomore JD King, second in High Point Overall Versatility, third for High Point Overall Team Contributor,  fourth in Figure Eight, and fourth in Pole Bending.

“I was actually really surprised,” Vejvoda said. “I’ve been preparing all winter. I was really happy with it; really happy with my horses.”

Other key performances came from King, who earned third in Roping, fourth in Steer Daubing, and fifth for High Point in timed events. Junior Sasha Ragan placed second in Key Hole, third in Figure Eight, and third for High Point Overall Versatility. Freshman Sierra White earned first in Working Rancher and second for High Point Rookie.

The next competition is the first weekend in April and will be held in Spokane,
