The Wenatchee High School ASB is putting on a drive-in movie theater in the parking lot of WHS tonight. It is set to start at approximately 9:15, with two movies being played, Toy Story 3 and Inception.

The idea was initially conceived by ASB Vice President Abe Sinay-Smith. “I saw some people doing this [a portable drive in theater] in a park in Spokane,” Smith said. “I thought this would be a really cool thing to do at the high school.”

Tickets to the event can be purchased in the ASB office for $12. The drive-in is also a part of the ASB-sponsored spirit week leading up to prom. Because of this, if receipts for prom tickets are shown while buying tickets to the drive-in, the price will be reduced to $10.

Sinay-Smith said he is expecting there to be a decent turnout, “Probably about 100 cars consisting of students and community members,” he said. Sinay-Smith has been advertising the drive-in beyond the bounds of WHS, passing out hundreds of fliers in Eastmont and having them announce the event over their intercoms.

“My goal is for this to be so successful that it becomes an annual thing,” Sinay-Smith said.
