Benefit concert lacks attendance

On April 12, teen country singer Afton Prater performed in the Wenatchee High School auditorium in which all proceeds went to Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit organization that assists families in financial struggles to find and pay for better and safer homes.

According to junior Devyn Blakney, the concert’s success was not as profound as predicted, but a greater outcome is still hopeful for next year. “If we ever do a concert again, it might be better to do it on a weekday so students don’t have to take time out of their weekend to come back to school,” said Blakney.

It was hoped that the fundraiser would raise around $2,000, however the goal was not reached, for only around $750 was collected, Blakney said. “It was a little disappointing.”

The performance itself was a success, for several members of the community attended yet very few students were present. “There definitely was a smaller number of students,” said Jacob Prater, Afton Prater’s cousin who also attended the concert. “But if something like this happens next year like this, then I think more artists would be cool.”
