Boys golf faces a rough season with no wins against their Big Nine foes. The boys are tied with Ike in third place, each with 11 points. The golfers continue to shoot for the State competition as individual competitors.

Meanwhile the girls team holds an undefeated record. Junior Carly Bozett has claimed first place in the PODS played.

Juniors Brady Kuntz and Brandon Steele scored a 78 and 81 during the POD versus Ike.

Girls golf finished fourth out of 16 teams on April 18.

“Moses Lake has some of the good players they all shoot pretty low,” junior Andy Johnson said. “We haven’t played our best yet. We are just not experienced enough. We only have two seniors on the team.”

Boys golf has faced tough competition this year, but still has a chance to secure a spot at Districts if they win the next two PODS.

“I knew that Moses Lake, based on what they had last year, we would have to play our best,” boys Coach Stan Opp said. “Eastmont has been quite a surprise. We beat them in the Battle of the Bridges, but they have beaten us in the last PODS.”

This year the Panthers have changed to a new home course.

“We are kind of giving up our home field advantage now playing at Three Lakes,” Opp said. “ It kind of puts us in a difficult situation. Still, if you are going to play golf you’re going to play it good anywhere.”

The boys continue to strive for lower scores if they are to send players to the State competition. Opp says consistency will be a key factor in the upcoming matches.

Meanwhile, the girls have five of the top nine golfers of the Big Nine. Bozett in first, senior Gabe Jones in fourth, Kadi Freund in fifth, sophomore Ali Brandt in seventh, and freshman Delany Merrill in ninth.

The female golfers are well on their way to the State tournament berth this season.

“I would like to see that all of the girls reach their personal goals before going to State and perform their best at State,” senior Randi Roberts said.
