Boys soccer scores shot to state

The Wenatchee High School boys soccer team qualified for State and claimed its sixth consecutive win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Sunnyside at a district away game on Friday, May 13.

For many players, winning this game brought much excitement and a sense of hard work paying off.

“We were expecting to win, we know it’s not about what we did in March or May, but right now that really counts,” senior Pedro Lopez said.

The team was able to pull off a clean victory, despite the absence of a key part of their team.

“It felt great [to win], we played hard and gave it our best. We didn’t have our team captain which made things difficult, but we had people fill in spots and had people step up, which helped us out a lot. We really wanted to end this season with a win and go back to state and we are proud to have accomplished that,” sophomore Luis Navarrete said.

Wenatchee is ranked No. 23 in the state this year. State playoffs will begin on May 18 against Kentwood at 7 p.m. in Covington.
