BREAKING: Varsity basketball coach suspended for “league violation”

Former varsity basketball coach Ron Stone was placed on administrative leave Jan. 15.

Wenatchee High School boys varsity basketball coach, Ron Stone, has been suspended for tonight’s game in Monroe, according to Athletic Director BJ Kuntz.

Kuntz said that Stone was suspended for a league violation, which she considers common. “It’s a non-issue,” Kuntz said. “We’re not making a big deal out of it. It happens all the time in boys basketball, people just don’t know about it.”

On Thursday, Stone’s team found out about the suspension and was coached in practice by Greg Stevens. It is not known who will coach the team tonight. Assistant Coach Brandon Hobson believes that assistant coach Cody Faulkner will coach the team tonight, but he doesn’t know for sure.

Stone will attend the game tonight. “Basically he can do everything tonight but sit on the bench and coach,” Kuntz said.

“I was pretty surprised. I thought he brought a good presence to the team,” sophomore Colin Goff said. “I never thought that he would do anything to get suspended.”

Attempts to reach Stone were unsuccessful.
