BREAKING: Wenatchee High School cancels Friday classes

Wenatchee High School will be closed Friday. All other Wenatchee School District schools will have class as normal.

The decision is in response to threats discovered in a girls bathroom at Wenatchee High School on Sept. 21 and Sept. 26. The first message alluded to an act of violence planned for Friday. The second message advised students and staff to take the threats seriously.

“Many parents felt uneasy about sending their students to school at Wenatchee High School on Friday,” Executive Director of Student Services Mark Helm said in a press release. “Some staff members were uncomfortable, too. We decided the best solution for this particular instance is to close the high school for the day.”

No sports or activities may practice or rehearse on Friday, and students will not be on campus for any reason, according to a email sent by WHS Principal Eric Anderson to WHS staff. Anderson also said that police feel there is a very low probability of a real threat.

In response to social media accounts masquerading as scary clowns and sending threatening messages, anyone wearing clown-related attire will be removed and not be allowed to participate in Homecoming activities, according to a press release sent out today by the school district.

WHS will either make up the day on Jan. 17, 2017 or June 12 2017, the press release said.
