The lightning storm which hit Wenatchee on Friday night caused a fire to breakout around 11:05 p.m. about two miles south of Rock Island. After the fire grew to 5,000 acres on Saturday afternoon, over 40 homes  on Cathedral Rock Road, Jumpoff Ridge Road and Big Springs Ranch Road were issued level 3 evacuations according to the Wenatchee World.

The manager of the Northeast Washington Interagency Communication Center in Colville, Rette Bidstrup, said roughly 14 new fires started in northern Okanogan County overnight.
