Wenatchee High School’s Future Farmers of America held their first-ever breakfast fundraiser at Applebee’s on Nov. 22. The money raised is going toward sending veterans to Washington, D.C., to recognize their contributions to the country.

A total of 109 tickets were sold for the event, bringing in approximately $750. An additional $800 was collected in donations. To send one veteran on the Honor Flight, it costs $1,000.

“We did meet two veterans, a brother and a sister,” FFA adviser Beth Hammerberg said. “We hope to help connect [them] with the Honor Flight.”

The event wouldn’t have been possible without the volunteers. There were 13 students and three parents helping out with waiting, serving, and collecting donations at the event.

“There is so much I could say. I’m honestly glad to do this, to give back to the veterans,” junior Tyson Sage said. “They did so many unimaginable things that I feel like it’s the least I could do. I could go on and on about the people I met and how grateful I am to them.”

FFA hopes to continue the breakfast fundraiser annually and will be supporting the Honor Flight Network next year as well.

“We would also welcome any other veterans to be referred to us that we can connect with Honor Flight,” Hammerberg said.

The Honor Flight Network sends two flights per year to Washington, D.C. — one in October and another in May. Last year, the club was able to raise enough money to send four veterans on the flight.
