On Tuesday Feb. 10, the girls varsity basketball team went head to head against the Eastmont Wildcats in the annual Litterbox game. While they ended with a loss, they had some shining moments and times where they were up and representing not just Wenatchee, but also the seniors who were being honored at Litterbox with their senior night.
“We went through what we needed to go through, we shot, we went through our defenses and our offenses. The only thing that’s different is we get a nice, big crowd and a lot of noise so we just have to keep playing for that,” said head coach Rachel Lippert.
With the combination of it being both Litterbox and senior night, pressure was high and the house was full in support of the team.
“We just really wanted to win, especially because of senior night and we knew it was our last time playing on the court. It was our goal to come in and play our best game,” said senior Rylee Jones.
When playing an opponent simply across the river, that brings not only pressure, but a different understanding of the rival.
“Knowing your opponent, you know what to adjust to, but they also know you so they’re gonna adjust as well,” Lippert said.
Under the pressure of the night, the team continued to perform, even if the final score shows a loss, the team had multiple wins on the court.
“There was a place where we finally moved the ball and we were passing it and then we got up to the bucket and that was nice,“ Jones said.
The team has one more game against David in league, where they may still be able to secure a place in the playoffs.
