Girls soccer dominates Wildcats

The Wenatchee High School girls soccer team kicked off the season Sept. 7 with a 2-1 win over Enumclaw High School, then went on to claim victory over Eastmont High School 3-1 on Sept. 12.

“We beat Enumclaw, which won State last year,” said senior Emily Rader, a forward for WHS. “I think we’ll have a good, strong season.”

The first goal of the season against Enumclaw was made when junior Taylor Butcherite, a member of the WHS junior varsity team, who made the goal during the first half when she was inserted into the varsity game against last year’s 3A state champions.  The second goal was made by Emily Rader later in the second half.

Senior Caroline Dahl  scored against Eastmont within four minutes of the opening whistle, followed by Emily Rader in the 40th minute, and junior Gabby Waterman in the 73rd minute. “The fan support at the Eastmont game was phenomenal,” said WHS Coach John Springer. “The amount of people that showed up really kept the energy going. Hopefully we can be able to get their support throughout the season.” Springer believes that a State championship is a definite possibility based on the team’s current performance.

The team will play its next home game on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 4 p.m. against Mount Spokane High School at the Apple Bowl.
