Despite the cancellation of Tuesday’s ultimate frisbee, the 2013 Homecoming sports activities were met with solid turnout, and a competitive atmosphere.

The sports activities kicked off with Buff Puff volleyball on Sept. 30. The Spike “n” Ikes were crowned the winners of Monday’s tournament, winning the championship game against team “Wendy’s” by only one point.

“We stayed calm as a team,” said junior Austen Lane, team captain of the Spike “n” Ikes.

“We had Gavin Long, who was one of the best players in the tournament. We also had rockin’ jerseys.”

Lane estimates about 80 fans attended the event.

“Some major highlights of the tournament would be seeing all the guys in their uniforms, acting very serious about a simple homecoming event,” said Spike “n” Ikes coach Kylee Adamek. “[The final game] was very close, and very intense.”

Although fewer teams competed this year, Adamek said the excitement and competitiveness of the event was still present.

Tuesday’s ultimate frisbee tournament was canceled due to lack of teams.

A total of 11 teams contended in Wednesday’s Powder Puff football tournament, which was won by The Dark Angels, winning 12-0 in the title match against the Camo Queens.

“We knew what we were doing,” said the Dark Angels team captain and senior Eleni Zaldivar. “We are all really close; we’ve had this same team since we were freshmen, and we’re now seniors.”

Dacey’s Chin seized Thursday’s Dodgeball tournament, placing first out of the five competing teams.

“It was a small tournament, but still lots of fun,” said ASB adviser Brent Grothe. “Dacey’s Chin had some talented players. Not only did they win the championship, but they had the style, you know?”
