Freshman IGNITE advisor Molly Butler leads freshmen in a game of Simon Says after welcoming them to the school

Incoming freshmen are welcomed to WHS by student leaders

August 31, 2015

The roar of the students echoes through the gym, their nervous conversations with their friends beside them amplified with the force of 600 voices. They have no idea what to expect, what curveball is going to thrown at them next.

This was the tone of Freshman Orientation before it began, people clumped up together in their cliques and stuck to their friends like glue. Nervous with the daunting challenge of high school right before them. After IGNITE adviser Molly Butler was done with them, they were singing a very different tune.

Anxious expressions turned into laughter and grins as they watched their fellow students pop balloons by hugging, or when Butler led them in a song accompanied by synchronized hand movements.

“I’m really happy that orientation has been fun,” incoming freshman Casia Logan said. “I’m excited for a lot of things, I’ve heard a lot of good things about the teachers.”

“Today has been awesome,” Butler said. “Our freshman class are going to be superstars.”

Orientation will be followed by a freshman exclusive dance from 8 to 9 p.m. this evening.
