INSPIRE Club fundraiser to benefit kidney transplant patient

Wenatchee High School’s INSPIRE Club is helping out local community member Steve Guffy, who is waiting for a kidney transplant. The club is raising money by working at a Spaghetti Feed and Auction on Jan. 18 at the Masonic Center from 5 to 8 p.m.

The spaghetti will be prepared by the Wenatchee Convention Center, and INSPIRE Club members will help serve. INSPIRE Club hopes to raise $5,000 to put into Guffy’s transplant fund, through ticket and auction sales. There are more than 60 auction items, including coffee cards, oil changes, restaurant tickets, and many more items donated from community businesses.

“I think this is so worthwhile because it’s our club’s opportunity to give back to someone in the community who has done so much for others,” said INSPIRE club adviser Amy McCubbin.

Guffy has been involved in the community for the last 30 years. He started the Bikes for Books program in Wenatchee, where bikes are donated to schools through reading programs. He also manages the Masonic Center, which is why the dinner will be held there.

Tickets can be purchased from McCubbin, room 124, club members, or through the ASB office. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children under 10. McCubbin is hoping for at least 200 people to attend.
