NCW bands competing at WHS

High school bands from around North Central Washington will be coming to Wenatchee for the annual Large Group Band Competition on Tuesday, March 25. Bands will perform two to three songs and be judged on their performance.

“It’s more like a festival than a competition,” Band Director Jim Kovach said. “The students perform for judges but there’s no rankings or anything.”

There are 11 bands participating. Some are going to Chelan to perform while the others are coming to Wenatchee High School.

According to junior Riley Rosser, the bands are judged by music professionals.

Kovach said the first two songs the bands will play have been worked on for about a month. The last song will be sight read, meaning the bands will perform a song they’re seeing for the first time.

Kovach said the Golden Apple Band is prepared, and the competition should be a fun time for the students as well as a great opportunity to learn and practice music.
