Private investigator will assist district with rape case

The Wenatchee School District has hired private investigator Kris Cappel of the Seabold Group, located in Seattle, to conduct the district’s administrative investigation looking into the rape allegations during a Wenatchee High School football trip Sept. 6, Superintendent Brian Flones said in an email last week.

“Because the administrative investigation is still pending, the District will not be making any further comment at this time,” Flones said.

Cappel is a former federal prosecutor and civil litigator, Flones said. Her current practice focuses on workplace investigations.

“The District does not have a date certain as to when the administrative investigation will be completed,” school district attorney Danielle Marchant said in an email.

Marchant declined to comment on how long the freshman football coach will remain on paid leave, how Cappel was selected to be the investigator, or emergency policy changes put in place by the school district following the alleged incident, citing the effort to preserve the integrity of the investigation.
